Tom Derham is a Midlands based Freelance Technician specialising in Sound but also experienced in areas of Lighting, Rigging, Technical Stage Management, and Special Effects for Theatre, Awards Ceremonies, Conferences, Bands and Live Events.

“I’ve been interested in Sound for as long as I can remember, playing with speakers and various gadgets from an early age, to working with friends bands from the age of 16. In 2006, when I went to University to study Physics, my interest in Sound continued and I ended up working for my Guild of Students Tech Department, where I developed my interest and ability in all forms of Technical Production. Whilst focusing on Rigging and Front of House Sound for many live events from theatre through to live music and events, I also developed my knowledge in many other areas such as lighting, theming, maintenance and special effects for a wealth of different events.

I have been working as a Freelance Sound Engineer and Technician for the past 5 years and have experience in different styles of Theatre, Live Music, and Corporate Events. The nature of my work allows me to stay as up to date as possible with the latest technology and developments within the entertainment and technical industry.

For me it is very interesting and exciting to see a project be built up from conception through to the final stages. Good Technical Production can give any event the finishing touches to make it into something truly great and it is really good to be a part of that. I thoroughly enjoy and take great pride in my work.”
